How to Use the Blackening

The Blackening is not two workbooks stapled together. It is one arc in two movements, and the order is not negotiable. Week 1 dismantles. Week 2 forges the boundaries. Skip the dismantling and the boundary has nothing to protect. Skip the boundary and what you uncovered leaks back into the old shape.

The covenant

Before you open Week 1, you make four agreements with yourself. Write them in the front of the workbook in your own handwriting. Sign and date them. This is not theatre — the body responds to ritual in ways the mind has forgotten.

1. **I will not skip the somatic exercises.** The shadow does not live in the head. It cannot be thought-out, only felt-through. 2. **I will not perform this work for an audience.** Not a partner, not a therapist, not a future memoir. The moment the work becomes content, it becomes costume. 3. **I will keep one artifact private.** At minimum, the Wall of Infamy from Week 1 stays in a place only I can access. The willingness to hold something unwitnessed is the entire muscle we are training. 4. **I will finish the arc.** Two weeks. Fourteen days. If I quit in Week 2 — and Week 2 is where most people quit — I will return and complete it before starting any other inner work.

What you'll have at the end

Fourteen days from now you will be holding two completed workbooks, one private document, and the no that has been waiting your whole life. You will also be holding something less tangible: a calibrated relationship with the parts of you that have, until now, been driving the car from the back seat with a blindfold on.

You will not be "healed." That word is a trap. You will have *begun* — meaning the same material that used to ambush you will now arrive announced, asking permission.
